Trophies & Prizes

The Winner of the Final Challenge is Overall Winner of the Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta -

They are awarded the Major Prize - An Audi A4 Avant 1.8 TFSI

Audi’s dynamic, elegant and versatile A4 Avant is the major prize at Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta 2010.

The most successful premium station wagon of its class offers excellent performance, versatility, typically high Audi build quality and a range of storage solutions in its large, flexible load-carrying area.

With exciting and dynamic design, the Audi A4 Avant is larger, lighter and more fuel efficient that its predecessor. The aerodynamic roofline lends the vehicle a  sleek, coupe-like silhouette, while the rear design focuses on width, with powerful, horizontal lines.  The new headlight design is proving extremely popular and distinctive and the Avant comes with daytime running lights as a standard feature.

The ASHR major prize vehicle has a dynamic 1.8 TFSI engine with 118 kilowatts of power, yet it remains very economical with consumption of just 7.4 litres/100km.

With up to 1,430 litres in volume, the capacious luggage area is lined with high-quality carpet and features intelligent details as standard such as a reversible cargo floor and a convenient cargo cover that retracts at a touch. Audi also offers luxury features such as an electro-mechanical drive for the rear tailgate or tie-down eyelets for securing luggage.

The ambience inside the A4 Avant is light and spacious. The legroom in the rear measures 895 mm – the best figure in the premium midsize segment – as is the headroom of 971 mm. The interior reflects Audi’s traditional strengths – a noble impression, uncompromising quality of workmanship with attention to every detail, and logical, intuitive operation.

The cockpit is driver-oriented, with the centre console tilted by eight degrees towards the driver and the top-quality instruments bear the classic Audi look, with a sporty twist.

John is a shipwright with 34 years experience, having served his apprenticeship from age 15, working with older shipwrights that taught him traditional methods. It was during this time that John found his passion and appreciation of specialised timbers such as Huon Pine, Australian Red Cedar and Jarrah etc.

Originally John began building these finely detailed sculptures to be used as trophies, which he donated to a number of sailing races and clubs that he was associated with. The trophies received such a strong reaction that soon he was being commissioned to undertake larger pieces.

John's collection of works began with sails being carved from solid slabs of Australian Red Cedar. His boats new blend the three mediums of timber, stainless steel and sandstone and he launched his first collection at Hamilton Island Race Week in August 2004.

John's work is highly sought after, often taking several months to complete a piece. His work is represented in the collections of Peter Mason: Chairman AMP, Wayne Kirkpatrick CEO Hamilton Island and Marcus Blackmore.
